A New York smoker has been placed in Metropolitan Hospital for psychological evaluation after stealing an MTA bus. According to witnesses, the woman was furious when the bus driver tried to kick her off on Manhattan’s East 96th St. after she lit a cigarette. She refused to cooperate.
As the driver was leading passengers into a connecting bus, the 34-year old woman saw a chance to wrest back control. She drove off.
After a brief three-block joy ride, the bus was stopped by another bus deliberately blocking its path. After taking the woman into custody, police said that she sounded disturbed and claimed that she was being followed. No one was injured in the incident and no passengers were on the bus when it was hijacked.
