Watch: Can Porn Ruin Men’s Sex Lives?

August 15th, 2016

A BBC report explores the impact of online porn on men’s sexuality, positing a link between erectile dysfunction in younger men and porn addiction. While there are no reliable statistics on porn viewing habits—and how that impacts sexual health—some medical professionals say they’re increasingly encountering young men who have trouble becoming aroused by their sexual partners. One therapist theorizes that it’s because men who watch too much porn are less likely to get turned on by sex with an actual partner.

“Our experience is that historically men that were referred to our clinic with problems with erectile dysfunction were older men whose issues were related to diabetes, MS, cardio vascular disease,” Angela Gregory, a sex therapist, tells the BBC. “These younger men do not have organic disease, they’ve already been tested by their GP and everything is fine.”

“So one of the first assessment questions I’d always ask now is about pornography and masturbatory habit because that can be the cause of their issues about maintaining an erection with a partner.”
