Watch: Jay Z and Molly Crabapple Short Film Condemns Epic Drug War Failure

September 15th, 2016

Artist Molly Crabapple has collaborated with Jay Z to make a short animated film chronicling the failures of the drug war.

The project shows how the drug war disproportionally affects minority communities in the US, even as many states are decriminalizing and legalizing marijuana. They address the fact that even as law enforcement continues to target minorities, the legal marijuana industry is already excluding them (as well as anyone who doesn’t have sufficient financial backing). The disproportionate number of drug arrests in minority communities has left many people with convictions, prohibiting them from participating in the legal weed industry.

Animator Jim Batt and musician Kim Boekbinder also worked on the project, which ran in the New York Times. Watch below.

  • The black community is in a bind. They need to make a choice between law enforcement and legalization. (Oh you want to have your cake and eat it too?)
